Division One

Hook FC move back to the top of Division One after beating Hampshire Irons FC 7-3 at King George V playing Fields on Saturday. They opened the scoring after eight minutes when Tom Davies was brought down in the box and stepped up to convert the resulting penalty kick. Irons replied in the 25th when a cross from Ben Haskins was missed by Andy Haig and Charlie Henry put the chance away to level. Hook came back strongly and added further goals via Andy Parker and Aaron King and just before half time Davies made it 4-1 after a shot from Pete Silvester was saved and he put away the rebound. In the 55th minute Parker scored again before James Ashford netted the second for Irons with an overhead kick. Parker curled in a King pass for his hat trick and King soon made it 7-2, a late third for Irons was netted by Anton Medford from an Ashford pass.

It is Sherborne St John FC whom they replaced at the top of the table, as Trevor Livingstone’s team went down 3-2 at home to DJS Telecoms FC who now move off bottom spot in the table. He was without his goalkeeper Darren Gary, so outfield player Sam Taylor stood in and did his best, but “overall it was a disappointing performance”, he said. Sherborne took a fifth minute lead when Alex Izzo put away a corner taken by Sachin Rai, but DJS came back to level with a penalty, taken by Ashley Elward and they then went ahead in the 30th when a 20 yard shot by Nick Saunders was too good for Taylor. Sherborne came back to level by the break when Tom Brickley headed home another Rai corner. Izzo, Luke Morgan and James Lovell all scorned chances and they were caught out when DJS came up with the winner from Jason Freathy.

Division Two

Unbeaten Tron FC move into second spot in the Division Two table after beating local rivals Overton United B 2-0 at Berrydown. However this derby gave Referee Adrian Fuller a tough day at the office, as he occurred difficulties throughout the game, having to show a yellow card to six players, three from each team and gave one of them Joe Harris, the Tron striker a red card after the final whistle. He will also be reporting Tron to The FA for misconduct by their players and supporters. Tron had most of the play and after just two minutes Ryan Watts in the Overton goal, was forced to make a one on one save when Harris was through on goal. It was Harris who gave Tron the lead in the 15th minute after the spade work was done by Richard Kalwarczyk and Lorne Howard. Six good saves from Watts kept Tron at bay until the 77th minute when they went 2-0 ahead. Substitute Michael Thomas burst down the channel and crossed the ball for Lorne Howard who ended Overton’s hopes with fine volley that was just too good for Watts.

Winklebury Wizards FC played Basingstoke United FC at Brighton Hill and both teams lined up before the kick off with a minute silence in respect of the Winklebury Wizards Chairman Graham Garrett, a valued servant to Junior and Boys football in Basingstoke for many years, who had passed away last week. It was in the 90’s when he was Hon Secretary of the very successful Royal Mail Rangers FC who finished runners up in the Premier Division one season. It is a sad loss to football that Graham at the age of 63 died suddenly with a heart attack and the League offer their condolences to his family. Of the game on Saturday, it ended with a 3- 0 defeat for Wizards, a rather one sides affair with United taking the lead in the 15th minute after picking up a long ball from Josh Lowther and lobbing keeper Gavin Alexander. Gus Reis made it 2-0 in the 25th after taking a pass from Tom Hartley and rounding the keeper. James Lucas headed against the bar and Wizards could not cope with the many attacks. Alexander did make some good saves from efforts by Callum Silcox and Ash Pearce hit the post from a Tom Hartley free kick. Remaining on top in the second half Reis scored his second in the 55th, a volley from a Silcox cross.
Bounty United FC’s marksmen were on target at Castle Fields against Basingstoke Athletic FC Reserves, coming off with 9-4 win. The goals came from a second half hat trick for Matt Love, two for Matt King and singles for Michael Stokes, Simon Farrell, Craig Williamson and Jordon Willis. It was Athletic opening the scoring through Aodhan Fitzsimmon, but by half time Jordon Willis, Simon Farrell and great free kick from Craig Williamson saw Bounty 3-1 ahead. Two quick goals from Matt Love and another from King, but Fitzsimmon netted two penalties to complete his hat trick and make it 6-3. Mitchell Stokes, Love and King added further goals before Matt Dean netted the third penalty for Athletic.
