Competition for top spot heats up!

Premier Division.


There were only two games in the Premier Division this week. The first saw Poynton take on Styal in a local derby.

A win for either side would see them move up a considerable amount of places in a very crowded mid-table. It was Poynton who came out on top as they produced a 4-1 victory over the Wilmslow natives. Poynton’s goals came through league top scorer, Rick Tindall, who scored two goals and substitutes, Andrew Hurst and Matthew Tatter.


The other fixture in the Premier Division took place just five miles from the aforementioned game in Poynton as Whaley Bridge took on Garswood United.


Bridge took full advantage of the visitors’ poor form as of late, putting nine goals past the Merseyside locals in impressive fashion. United did manage to pick up two goals, but it just wasn’t enough to mount any real threat to Whaley Bridge’s lead. This victory puts Whaley Bridge ahead of both Wythenshawe and Cheadle Heath Nomads at the top of the league. This, coupled with Poynton’s win, means that the top four are all situated within a ten mile radius of each other.


League One


Warrington Town Reserves maintain top spot this week as they dominated their game against Cheadle Town Reserves as they won 5-0, this result puts Warrington four points clear of second-placed Billinge FC.


Billinge also picked up three points this week in a 6-2 victory over Lostock Gralam thanks to goals from Jon Redmond x3, Ste Wolhuter X2 and David Wright. AFC Macclesfield defeated Halebank 8-1 in an astounding display that saw braces from Jack Bannister, Jay Burgess, Jack Disney and Jordan Gregory.


West Didsbury And Chorlton Reserves put in a strong showing against Mersey Valley as they came away with a 5-1 victory. The Manchester side’s win came through goals from Shane Anton Bates, James Tootle and a hat-trick from Joel Igenoza.


Bottom of the league side, Tarporley Vics, went to second-bottom side, Grappenhall Sports, in search of their first league win of the season. The visitors came away with the win, a 1-5 victory, meaning they moved above the Warrington locals and off the bottom of the table.


There was only one draw in the league this week as Middlewich and Pilkington played out a 3-3 draw which sees neither side move in the league table.


League Two


AFC Denton’s poor form continues this week as they recorded their 6th successive league loss and are yet to pick up a point thus far. Their loss came at the hands of Deva Christleson who put eight goals past the home side as they moved up to fourth in the table.


Unicorn Athletic moved up to second in the table following their 5-1 win over Sandbach United Reserves thanks to goals from Lee Hendley, Mike Howorth, James Arnold, and a brace from MOTM, Ian Taylor. Broadheath Central remain at the top of the table after their 2-0 win at home to Winstanley Warriors.


In the final game in League Two this week, Moore United and Barnton Reserves came out even in an uneventful 0-0 draw which leaves them both towards the lower half of the table.


Reserves League One


Linotype Cheadle HN’s side are still top of the league this week as they won 1-0 at home to Eagle Sports Reserves thanks to a Ben Reeves goal. Daten and Billinge were part of an entertaining game which saw seven goals. Daten came out on top with a 4-3 win, after coming back from being 1-2 down at half-time, thanks to goals from Mustapha Bouamra, David Kellett and Jordan Wood x2.


Knutsford ‘A’ beat Denton Town in a game which saw the only goals coming from substitutes. Knutsford came away with all three points after also scoring the only three goals in the game. Those goals came via Warren Thompson X2 and Bradley West.


The final fixture this week was an identical fixture as one which took place in the Premier Division this weekend as Styal’s Reserves took on Poynton’s Reserves. The only difference was the score line as Poynton won 1-2 which saw a Man of the Match performance from Poynton’s Jack Glass.


Reserves League Two


Mersey Valley finish top of the league again this week. Getting their sixth win in six games, beating AFC Macclesfield by 1-0 in Sale to move five points clear of second-placed, Pilkington. Pilkington also recorded a win this week, defeating Wythenshawe’s Development team 4-0 at home to move ahead of Middlewich Town.


Middlewich lost their game this week to St. Helens 1-0, moving the Merseyside natives to just one point behind their opponents and up to fourth place. Malpas remain joint bottom with Grappenhall after their sixth successive loss at home to Moore United.
