The First Preliminary Rounds of the Peter Raynbird Cup was played in which the Division Two teams take part
and through to the next stage are Winklebury Wizards, Basingstoke United, Bounty United , Preston Candover and AFC Berg.
The Shernorne Reserves match against AFC Berg ended in a penalty shoot out after the two teams were level at the end of ninety minutes and then 2-2 after extra time. Connor Perrin had given Sherborne a 20th minute lead and they held this until the second half when a penalty was guven to Berg after keeper Russ Hancock committed a foul. Kevin Beaumont converted to force extra time when Kevin Allayne put Berg in front and Ben Harman equalized. In the shootout Beumont, Louis Woodman, Matt Goodman, Shane West and Spencer Charlton converted for Berg. Harman, Aiden Blackwell and Andrew Carr for Sherborne, but the penalty save by keeper Simon Edwards from the spot kick by Dave Purt ended in Berg 5-3 winners. Preston Candover top marksman Kyle Buckland was on top form as his team returned for Berrydown with a10-3 up win over Overton United B. Rob Stait setup the first for him and he quickly completed his nhat trick with Jamie Perryman scoring the fourth. Overton replied before the break through Sammy Aldoori and then it went to 8-1, with Buckland exposing gaps in the Overton defence scoring at will and after Damien Trendall and Ryan Watts replied for United, Rob Stait and Richard Spiers completed the rout. Fancied Basingstoke Athletic went two goals up against Winklebury Wizards. But in the end were beaten 4-3. Lee OGrady and Dale Bristow had given them this lead but before half time. Things went wrong after the break when Mark Allen was sent off for Athletic and Wizards cashed in with Scotty Winterborne reducing the arrears from a Ben Clarke assist and then Matt Lowe
leveled from a Josh Dickens corner kick. Matt Stillwell equalized for Athletic but with ten to go a 30 yard strike from Lowe went in off the bar for the winner. Basingstoke United proved too strong for Labour Club and hit them 8-0 at Brighton Hill. A long clearncefrom keeper James Sallows led to Tom Hartley lobbing the opener and a clever goal from Dan Southgate made it 2-0 and Hartley added another before the interval. Both Hartwell and Ash Pearce completed their hat tricks and a 50 yard shot from Sam Barton, as Labour collapsed.
I went to Castle Fields where Bounty United won a close game against Herriard Sports, winning just 4-3 as Herriard looked for their first win. Matt Love and Mitchell Stokes looked dangerous up front for Bounty and after 14 minutes over came a corner from Stokes, it was headed on by Bradley Neal and Love was at the far post to finish off. Sam Weber replied for Herriard in the 28th after a solo run It was in the 55th when Bounty looked shaken when a shot from Mike Hickie was too good for keeper Szymon Dowszynski to go in front. Bounty came back to level through Paul Barton in the 65th and it was Barton again after the keeper could only half save Stokes shot. It became 4-2 in the 81st when Hamill was beaten by a Craig Williamson free kick. Herriard kept battling and in the 85th minute Stuar Minton scored to make it a nail biting seven minutes of added time for the hosts.
