Goals galore as Whaley, Wythenshawe and Altrincham all win!
Premier Division
Whaley Bridge remain top of the Premier Division as they picked up as they beat Crewe 3-1 at Horwich Park. The home side fell behind early on as Danny Lavalette latched onto a corner. Bridge pulled level through captain, Rob Newton, a brilliant finish from the edge of the box into the top corner.
Crewe were handed a blow as Steve Parker and Josh Ruane were both dismissed for second yellows. Whaley Bridge took full advantage of the dismissals and came away with all three points thanks to two Bill Sutton goals.
Wythenshawe remain in second as they put on a dominant display at home to Garswood United at Ericstan Park. The first half was fairly quiet, Town got a penalty early in the game as Rhodes was brought down in the box. The United ‘keeper saved the penalty however to keep it at 0-0.
Another penalty shout was dismissed later on in the half as Rhodes was brought down again. It was Garswood who struck first, a corner coming in which Dixon headed home to make it 0-1. That lead was short-lived however, as Antonio Dinchin pulled back less than a minute later.
Wythenshawe took the lead on 55 minutes as David Moreno put the ball into net following some good team build-up play. And the three points were sealed when Rhodes, who had been close to scoring all afternoon, finally found the back of the net to make it 3-1. Altrincham Reserves also won this weekend as they beat Styal 5-0, this result moves them upto third, just five points behind Wythenshawe in second and eleven behind Whaley Bridge at the top.
Malpas beat Denton Town 1-0 at home to pick up their fifth league win of the season, the goal for the home side coming through Harry Cunningham. The only Premier Division draw this week saw Greenalls PSO and Congleton Vale tie 2-2. Vale lead 0-2 at the break before Greenalls pulled it back to 2-2 in fine fashion.
League One
Billinge move up to second place as they were dominant away at Tarporley Victoria as they took all three points in a game that finished 0-3. Jamie Anderson, Chris Cottington and Ryan McCabe picked up the goals for the visitors, who now sit nine points off leaders Warrington Town Reserves.
Pilkington, who finish the week in fourth, also won this weekend in thrilling fashion as they were on the winning end of a seven goal thriller. It finished 3-4 at The Park Stadium.
Middlewich Town beat Golborne Sports 4-1 at home thanks to goals from Ed Marsh and Jamie Petrie, plus a Callum Priestley brace.
League Two
Deva Christleson move to the top of League Two as they beat Sandbach United Reserves by three goals to one at home. The result moved them level on points with Windle Labour, but it is Deva who have the stronger goal difference.
There was another seven goal thriller as Cuddington beat Maine Road 4-3. The Northwich locals picked up the win thanks to goals from Griffiths, Harvery and Wakefield (2). The final game this weekend saw Unicorn Athletic draw 3-3 at home to Barnton Reserves.
Closing Remark
This week has seen the football world in shock following the plane crash in Brazil that took the lives of an almost entire squad of players destined for a cup final. We understand that this is a hard time for all involved and so we at the Cheshire Football League want to thank all clubs who took part in the minute’s silence this weekend.
