Basingstoke Royals 1 Soldiers Return 2.

The header from Spencer Champ in the 90th minute saw the Sunday League Champions Soldiers Return win the Knightsbridge Garage All Champions Cup at Winklebury on Sunday morning.
Basingstoke Royals have gone the whole season unbeaten in the Premier Division of the Saturday League, but fell behind in the 12th minute when a corner taken by Warren Hill was not cleared well; it fell to Andrew Butler and his low shot deflected past the helpless Richard Munday.
James Gilham had a shot cleared off the line for Royals in the 19th and a minute later they were level. A well placed free kick out on the right from Tom Smith was perfect for James Price to storm in with a powerful header, giving keeper Paul Wade no chance.
Royals played some good football, but when it came to finishing the well organized Soldiers defence, led well by Spencer Champ, held firm and on the break they were dangerous and Munday did well to save a shot from James Galpin in the 30th.
Towards half time Royals had some good chances with Stephen Horton having a good effort cleared off the line by Champ and later firing a good opportunity over the bar.
Alex Izzo had given the Royals defence some problems on the break and after having a certain goal cleared off the line in the 55th, he forced Munday to make a great save to keep it level.
Play was fairly even with the two sides each having chances, Stuart Urquart for Royals and Stuart Cubbage for Soldiers, but with both keepers in good form it was level until in the 90th minute the winner came.
It was from a corner kick, again it was Warren Hill with the excellent flag kick and the header from centre back Spencer Champ was too strong for Munday to keep out.

The Championship Cups for both sections were presented to the captains before the game by Barrie Hiscock, the Basingstoke & District League Chairman.
A cheque for £250 was handed to Robert Taylor of the Sebastion Action Trust, the proceeds of the Match.
