A large number of NAPIT LEAGUE sides were in action in the Derbyshire Senior and Junior Sunday Cup third rounds at the weekend with NAPIT ONE leaders Killamarsh Juniors Athletic hosting NAPIT TWO side Ashover Vale. Ashover are currently third from bottom in their division and as expected they found the going tough against a Killamarsh side that had only been beaten twice in the league this season and despite battling bravely they went down 6-2 with M Kamara scoring three times, A Parsons twice and R Holmes once. Hasland had been handed a tricky tie at Hilton Athletic who took them to extra time. It was 2-2 after ninety minutes but Hasland upped the anti in the extra thirty minutes to win 4-3, James Goodison and Lee Clay both scoring twice. An all NAPIT ONE clash at Walton Dam saw the hosts FC Britannia progress to the quarter finals at the expense of Renishaw MW. Fellow top division side AFC Whitecotes join them after two goals from Jez Mitchell plus a third from Lytham saw them edge out Tibshelf Town 3-2, Matt Waldram and Jamie Johal with Towns goals. NAPIT THREE leaders West Killamarsh unfortunately will not feature in the last eight, Corner Pin beating them 3-1 to end their interest in the competition.

The highest placed NAPIT side in the Junior section, Pilsley took on Sherwin Arms and eased past them by three goals to one, Matt Shiels scoring two of the winning goals, Jamie Bowmer one for the NAPIT FOUR leaders. Steelmelters of FOUR took on Holmehall 2ND of SIX and raced into an early three goal lead in the first half, adding four more after the interval to win easily 7-0, Ryan Alsop scored twice as did J Yeomans, M Hutton, C Birchall and L Nunn completing the scoring. Also going through to the last eight are Woodthorpe Inn for whom Ant Lynam scored a hat trick, Ben Bower one in a 4-3 extra time win over Roe Cross Simmondley and Clowne Wanderers Reserves who won 6-1 at Gate Inn North Wingfield, Robson two, Boyle, Jackson, Peake and Taylor the match winners.

In the league FC Brimington produced the performance of the day as they beat NAPIT TWO leaders New Whitt by three goals to nil, the first time New Whit have been beaten in the league since September 9th at Woodside. What made the victory even sweeter was the fact that a couple of weeks ago they were beaten 6-2 by the same opposition. This time around however goals from J Thomas, who scored twice and M Galloway saw the tables well and truly turned. Second placed Barrow Hill MC took full advantage of the leaders demise by beating Woodside 3-1 [Sanderson, Wain and Vine] to reduce New Whitt’s lead to six points. Brampton Rovers JMA won 2-1 at Silver Birches, Conner Roberts and Sean Brandon scoring and Hollingwood recorded a much needed 3-2 win at Wingerworth Barley Mow, Mick Nash scoring two of the goals.

An avalanche of goals fell in NAPIT THREE with two sides scoring twenty-two goals between them. Brickmakers top scored with a 12-2 win over Steelmelters Arms Killamarsh, the list of scorers as follows: Poole and M Brown three, Lynas, Beech and A Brown two. Dronfield Woodhouse didn’t do quite as well, only scoring ten at Beechers Brook, Austin three, Crossland two, Loftus, Mottram, Sharpe, Simpson and Morton one in the goals. In a not so one sided game, though pretty much so, AFC Bolsover hit six against Creswell Black Diamond who did manage a consolation goal. For Bolsover Josh Parfitt hit a treble, Dobbs, Rushby and Segona, one each. The game between Matlock Town Wanderers and Newton George and Dragon was much closer than either of the above, so much so it ended level at 3-3 with A Brown scoring all three Wanderers goals, Gibb, Hadley and Webster George and Dragon’s. Red Lion Whitt Moor’s three nil win over Hopflower Athletic in which Luke Linacre scored twice and Luke Mathewman once moves them level on points with West Killamarsh and AFC Bolsover at the top.

In FOUR Dronfield Miners went second following a comfortable 5-1 win over promotion rivals AFC North Wingfield, Oliver Wood having a superb game hitting the back of the Wingfield net four times, Nathan Turner scoring the fifth. Spartans won for only the second time and it was an impressive one as well, D Wainwright’s goal beating promotion chasers Brimington Park Colts who made the long journey from their ground to Spartans, approximately ten yards!! Also winners in FOUR were Newbold who beat New Whitt B 2-1, Wayne Garrity and Adam Fareham with the winning goals.

It’s really close at the top of FIVE as North Wingfield MW took pole position after beating Newbold Sports 6-2, Henson and Large scoring two each, Gibson and Hegarty one each the goal scorers. They lead Clowne Wanderers Reserves by a point, Hasland Community being a further point behind after they won 6-0 at Old Whittington MW. A ten goal thriller at Back Lane saw hosts Palterton Sporting Club beat Brampton Brewery 6-4, Will Holmes running riot with five of Sporting’s six goals. Something had to give as winless Brimington Utd and Spital met and it was the former who broke their duck by winning 5-2, Darren Parkinson scoring three for the winners, Symon Farringdon and Carl Newell once each.

NAPIT SIX leaders Crown Killamarsh took on Fidlers Rest looking to extend their advantage however Fidlers Rest put in a fine display to hold them to a 2-2 draw, Page and Whitehead scoring for Crown, Stokes and Maidens for Fidlers. Second placed Hady Villa won 2-1 against Dronfield Wanderers to cut Crown’s lead to one point. Wayne Coupe and Andy Laming scoring in what was Villa’s ninth win from ten starts. In a tight game Renishaw MW and Barlow Kingston Rovers shared six goals to pick up a point each, Clayton scored twice for Renishaw, Poulton once with Rovers goals coming from Nigel Emberton and Scott Whitehouse who scored twice. Markham Arms visit to Boythorpe proved to be well worthwhile, Madin scoring twice, Parris, Manlove and Taylor once in a 5-0 win.

Duckmanton Community’s grip at the top of SEVEN tightened following a 3-0 win over Squadron Medical in which Tom Bell, Martin Sheppard and Jack Weaver scored. Dronfield Town have yet to win but against Brimington Club they did score four goals, however their defensive frailties were once again in evidence as they concede seven, the seven coming from Hutton three, Buxton two, Moulds and Johnson one. Third placed Oxcroft Utd’s promotion hopes suffered a set- back as they just lost 3-2 at Grassmoor Sports Reserves, Chambers scoring two of Sports goals, Dan Clarke the third. A goal each from Davidson and Thompson secured Britannia Tupton a 2-1 victory over Spartans 2ND only their second of the campaign.
