Peter Raynbird Reviews Hampshire Cup Matches Played on 5th December 2015.

Hampshire Junior A Cup.
Following the third Round Hampshire Cup matches played last Saturday there will be three Basingstoke League clubs, Hook FC, Twentyten FC and Tadley Calleva FC ‘A’ left in the Hampshire Junior ‘A’ Cup and two Division Two sides, Basingstoke United FC and Tron FC through to the last eight of the Hampshire FA Saturday Junior ‘B’ Cup.
The Hampshire Junior ‘A’ Cup is now down to the last sixteen and Tadley Calleva FC ‘A’ will be in the draw after beating Portcastrians FC via a penalty shootout. It was a great comeback for Bradley Nash’s team as they were trailing 3-0 in the opening twenty minutes. Kye Theodore managed to pull a goal back before the break. With the wind a long cross from Liam Belcher ended up in the net and Peter White equalized after he came on as substitute. The home side regained the lead, but pressing hard a long throw from Lee Champion ended up with White leveling to 4-4. In the shoot out with both teams scoring all of their opening four penalties, it came to Sudden Death and when Gary Harper, the Tadley keeper saved the fifth, Stephen Burgess put away his spot kick to see Tadley through 5-4 winners. Tadley have been drawn at home to SparTen FC in the next stage.
Twentyten FC are through after disposing of visitors Bournemouth Electric FC Reserves at Preston Candover with a 3-2 win. Kicking against the wind, the scores were level at 0-0 at half time. Joe Osborne netted for Alana Spacagna’s side to put them 1-0 ahead, scoring from a Jordon Wainwright centre. Twentyten fell behind to two goals early in the second half and it looked like they were making their exit until in the 88th minute Sam Coombs equalized with a first time angled shot and then in the fifth minute of added time a ball from Charlie Hill fell to Wainwright who put away the chance to see his side through. It is a trip to the IOW for them in the next round as they have been drawn away to Brightstone FC.
Hook FC are through once again, drawn away to Bishops Waltham Dynamos FC in this round, they won quite easily with a 4-1 score line. Although he was not amongst the scorers, it was midfielder James Neville who was their Man of the Match, playing a big part in this excellent performance. Dave White gave them a 19th minute lead following a through ball from Jack McKee. They had to wait until the 58th to extend their lead when a good move between White, James Westwood and Tom Davies, led to Aaron King making it 2-0. In the 67th minute Davies went on a good run, cut in and beat the keeper with a shot just inside the far post. With three minutes left Neville showed his class by threading through a pass to Davies who made it 4-0. The home side scored their consolation goal in the 88th minute.
There was no joy for Basingstoke Labour Club FC who traveled to the Isle Of Wight and returned 4-0 losers against Ryde Saints FC. The Labour Manager Dan Poulter said “They were a well-organized side” but he was without six regulars, including their goalkeepers and it meant outfielder Josh Dickens, who did his best, had to play between the sticks. Playing on a hill did not help Labour and although their top scorer Cameron George was included in the team, his chances were restricted to just one when he was through on goal, but the keeper did well save. It is Hook FC who will now travel to the Island to meet Ryde Saints FC in the last sixteen.
Also making their exit was Overton United FC ‘A’, ending the tie 3-1 losers in Andover against SparTen FC. Overton started off well enough and went into a 15th minute lead when a three man move between Charlie Palmer, Phil Eves and Terry Lock led to Lanu Otudeko scoring with a first time shot. The Andover League side drew level before half time after beating the United offside trap and in a hard fought second half both sides created chances, with SparTen taking theirs and Overton unable to reply.
DJS Telecoms were unable to raise a team to travel to the IOW and conceded their Cup game against Shanklin FC Reserves.
Hampshire FA Saturday Junior ‘B’ Cup
Basingstoke United FC had no problem beating Isle Of Wight visitors Seaclose FC at Brighton Hill, going through to the last eight after winning 8-0. They built up a three goal advantage in the first half. Jay Stephen after a solo run, Callum Silcox, scored the second and Ashley Pearce with number three after a mis-hit shot by Joe Cook fell to him. Josh Lowther made it 4-0 early in the second half and long clearance kick by keeper James Sallows led to Cook making it 5-0. Further goals from Lowther, Tom Hartley and Cook made it an uncomfortable boat trip back to the Island for Seaclose FC.
As Basingstoke United FC have been drawn against Tron FC in the Quarter Finals, it could be the year a Basingstoke Club brings the Hampshire Saturday Junior ‘B’ Cup back to Basingstoke. Both United and Tron have strong squads and either should be capable, but against Cowes Sports ‘A’ Tron made hard work of it at Newfound and were taken to penalties before beating the visitors 4-3. Errors at the back saw Tron trailing 2-0 in the opening six minutes, but in the 25th minute a truly fine volley from Lorne Howard from a John Ervin cross put them back in the game. In the 38th minute Harris put away a penalty kick after Zac Reynolds was floored. It was not until the 72nd minute when they eventually took the lead, Reynolds with a tap in following a John Ervin cross and with four minutes of added time gone it looked to be enough. However the Islanders then put the score level when a mix up between Darren Hutchins and Richard McCoubrie resulted in a header going into the net and this brought the shootout. Harris, Richard Kalwarczyk and Sam Nicholls were successful for Tron, Howard hit the bar with his attempt, but Beaumont saved the fourth and fifth and the decider was put away by John Ervin to see Hutchins and McCoubrie’s side through 4-3 winners.
Harry Grainger, the Winklebury Wizards FC manager, felt it was their best performance for some weeks, even through his lads lost 1-0 to visiting Brading Town FC ‘A’. Without his regular keeper not available, Jack Arthur, an outfield player had to take over and although he did well, he could not keep out the free kick in the 18th minute that proved the lone goal in the game and the decider. Wizards had a much better second half when Scotty Winterbourne had a great chance and shot straight at the keeper and Conner Stratton shot just wide from a Lee Garrett cross. Their last chance came in the 89th minute when Greg Adams was through on goal, but his finishing shot drifted just wide of the far post with the keeper beaten.
