North Hants May Cup Quarter Finals

Hook won through to the Semi Finals of the North Hants May Cup following a very easy passage by beating Overton United B 7-0 at the King George V playing Fields.
Overton started the game well enough and had a good share of play until the 21st minute when they conceded a penalty. Tom Davies was brought down and put away the spot kick for the Hook lead. Four minutes later Tim Hearson put Andy Parker through for the second and Davies made it 3-0 by half time, a good move with the final pass from Aaron King. Steve Price hit the bar early in the second half and then headed home a corner taken by Morgan Davies for the fourth. Davies completed his hat trick in the 59th and a minute later it became 6-0 when keeper Jimmy Buckland saved the hot shot from Parker and Jack McKee put away the rebound. It was McKee who completed the rout after Jon Noakes had beaten two men and handed him the opportunity.

The pitch at Barlow’s Park was ruled unfit to stage the other Quarter Final between Tadley Calleva A and Tron FC. So this tie will be played this coming Saturday..

Basingstoke B Cup Quarter Final.

Herriard Sports won the Basingstoke B Cup last season by beating Basingstoke Athletic in the Final and they are through to the Semi Finals after beating TDI Group 3-1 at home. Graham Jenkins team was never at the races in this match as the holders looked in control throughout. Determined play by Sam Cato led to a shot by Sam Weber, his shot was saved by Russ Hancock, but Weber followed up to net the rebound. This was in the first minute of the game and in the 34th again Hancock did well to save a shot from Alex Roberts and Cato followed up to net from close in. Lee Chambers did have a chance for TDI but shot over the bar, but just before half time Cato made it 3-0 after playing a one two with Karl Buttle. There was plenty of chances for Herriard, with Cato, Roberts and Stuart Minton all hitting the woodwork before TDI scored their lone goal. It came in the 85th minute after McCaulay Carvell was brought down and Ashley Burchett scored from the resulting penalty kick.

Peter Raynbird Cup Quarter Finals

Basingstoke United could not repeat the heroics of beating Tadley Calleva in the previous round and went out of the Peter Raynbird Cup by losing 3-1 to DJS Telecoms. Danny Stafford’s team have not had a great season so far, having lost five of their eight league starts, but deserved their chance of silverware by getting through to the Semi-Finals. Harry Rudge gave them the lead in the 33rd minute with a neat 18 yard strike following a Nick Saunders pass. It the 60th minute Jason Freathey took on two men and extended the lead. There was bit of a wobble in the 70th minute when Joe Cook scored for United, but three minutes later they were back on course with a third. It was Saunders again with the pass and Pete Lomax with the finish.

Twentyten had no problems in disposing of Basingstoke Labour Club to move into the Semi Finals, winning 4-0 at Preston Candover. Labour had a good chance to go in front early on, but Matt Kelly fired over the bar . In the 30th Twentyten went ahead when Jack Tanner, always prominent if the midfield, headed on a goal kick for Joe Hill to score and only some good saves from the Labour keeper Sam White kept it down to 1-0 until the 46th minute. It was again a long ball out of defence, picked up by Hill, a good turn and no chance for the keeper. Hill completed his straight hat trick by the 55th minute. It was neat chip from Jack Clarke in midfield, picked up and fired home. Nothing of note from Labour and the fourth for Twentyten came five minutes from time when Carl Pearson put away a corner taken by Franklin Spacagna.
