Heavy rain overnight on Friday and into Saturday morning decimated the weekend programme in the Everards Leicestershire Senior League, so it's just a handful of games across the 3 divisions to look at this weekend.
In the Everards Brewery Premier Division, Ellistown caused an upset and earned themselves three vital points in the relegation dogfight as they won 1-0 away at Hathern, Jack Bonell scoring just after the half-hour as he turned the ball home in the box, Ellistown then withstanding late pressure in the second half to hang on. That win lifts Ellistown up a place to 13th, now five points clear of relegation, where Friar Lane & Epworth occupy bottom spot. At the other end of the table, Magna 73 climbed to second in the in-running table after a 3-2 win at Leicester Atletico, sub Fin Thomas with the late winner for Magna after a brace from Jamie Simons, Mamadu Djalo and Kosi Ezeja for Atletico.
Only two games survived in Everards Brewery Division One as well. Birstall United Reserves remain bottom, two points adrift of safety, after losing 4-1 at mid-table Kirby Muxloe Reserves, Kane Brown (2), Jacob Botterill and Ewan Lilleyman for Kirby, Kai Taylor for Birstall. Apart from Hathern, the only other game on grass in the LSL this weekend was at Gypsy Lane, where St Patricks hosted Mountsorrel Amateurs, and the home side won 3-0 as Jack Hickey (2) and Elijah Morton scored for Pats in the second half.
The only game played in Everards Brewery Division Two resulted in another change at the top of the table, as Community Football Academy returned to top spot with an 8-1 thrashing of Hinckley Borough, Jaseem Khamkar with a hat-trick, Mohamed Mahir, Ricardo Mills, Zak Yusuf, Aadam Hajat and sub Jack Wormleighton for Community, Cameron Faxon for Borough. The match between Whetstone Athletic and Barrow Town Reserves was postponed on Friday afternoon when Barrow were unable to raise a side, and that game will be considered by the Management Committee. All other games postponed on Saturday were the result of weather issues.
Cup action follows in midweek, as we look at the County Cups and the Everards Tiger League Cup. Then, it's hopefully a return to three divisions next weekend. We'll see you then.
