Preview of the opening weekend's fixtures.
Premier Division
Counting House vs Windmill – Jacky Bakers 10.30am
Last season’s champions Counting House open their defence of the title against newly promoted Windmill who have plenty of players with experience of playing in the top division, so this promises to be a tough start for the defending champions.
Frames United vs Lanthorne – Jacky Bakers 10.30am
Frames United start their new era having changed name from Pro Parts United with a home match against Lanthorne. Both teams performed well in the cup competitions last season and will be hoping for a strong league campaign.
19th Hole vs TWS Cramptons – Viking Field 10.30am
19th Hole under new manager Russell Rowe welcome TWS Cramptons to Viking Field as they begin their season. A strong start tailed off last season and they’ll be hoping to be more consistent during the coming season. TWS Cramptons will be wanting to regain the title they won in 2022-2023.
First Division
FC Inter Westgate vs Lesters Athletic – Lymington Road 10.30am
Two promoted teams meet at Lymington Road when FC Inter Westgate host Lesters Athletic. A Lesters Athletic win and a draw were the results when the two teams met last season in the league.
Macies vs Westgate Social Club – Jacky Bakers 10.30am
Another promoted side in Macies begin their season with a home match against new boys Westgate Social Club. The newcomers have recruited well as they look to get off to a winning start but face a tough test against last season’s Second Division runners-up.
Monkton vs Red Arrows – Monkton 10.30am
Two survivors from last season’s First Division meet on the opening day. Red Arrows have strengthened their squad with the additions of some former George Inn players whilst Monkton again look like they’ve got a competitive squad.
Northwood vs Easy Scaff – Baypoint 10.30am
Another two new teams meet at Baypoint when Northwood host Easy Scaff. Both teams have multiple players that have featured at this level before as they bid to get off to a winning start.
Westwood vs Hussar – Jacky Bakers 10.30am
Westwood begin life in the First Division by hosting Hussar. Having been promoted after finishing third last season, it’ll be interesting to see how they fare against a Hussar team that seemed to be running away with the title last season only to struggle with injuries towards the end of the campaign.
Second Division
Aussie Arms vs The Vale – Jacky Bakers 10.30am
Aussie Arms begin their second season in the league with a home match against The Vale. Aussie lost both league matches against their visitors last season but having had a full season in the league will feel more equipped for a better campaign. The Vale finished strong and will fancy a run at promotion this season.
Franklins vs Prince Albert – Bell Meadow 10.30am
Another side hoping for a promotion push will be Franklins, having finished fifth last season they’ll be wanting to push on this season but face a Prince Albert side that have looked impressive during pre-season in their debut season in the league.
Garden Bar vs Shrimpos – Jacky Bakers 10.30am
A new name will see Garden Bar hoping for a change in fortunes having finished bottom of the Second Division last season under former name of S&S Services. Having recruited some experienced heads into the squad, they had some decent results in pre-season and open up against league newcomers Shrimpos who themselves have also gathered together an impressive squad.
Sandwich Town vs Holman Carpentry – Baypoint 10.30am
Sandwich Town begin their season against a Holman Carpentry side that took four points of them in their two league matches last season. Both teams will be hoping to push on higher up the table this season having finished in the bottom half of the table in season 2023/2024.
The League would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
