Review of games played on 22/12.

Only two of the scheduled ten games were played. Romiley V Cheadle in the Harold English Memorial Trophy and Cheshire Milkmen V Adswood in the Paul Bailey/Graham Wright Memorial Trophy.

Romiley go through to the next round following their 6-3 win over Cheadle, Romiley’s top scorer was Carl Pendlebury who bagged a hat trick. Sharing the others were Jack McConnell, George Deen and Cade McKenna. Cheadle had twice taken the lead through goals from Nathan Taylor and Jack McLeod, McLeod’s second goal brought Cheadle level at 3 all with twenty minutes to go.

The other cup tie was decided by the penalty shoot-out. Adswood who drafted in three of their junior players found themselves 3-1 down with only ten minutes remaining. Miles Vare opened the scoring to give the home team the lead. Jacob Brindley then found the home net to level the scores. But a goal from Danny Jones put the Milkmen back in front before half time. It looked all over for Adswood when Prindi Kimputo added the third with time running out. With the three youngsters playing like seasoned senior footballers they helped their team to get back in the game. Jack Bramwell hit a ‘screamer’ into the top corner of the net then with virtually the last kick of the match Jacob Brindley coolly netted the equaliser from the penalty spot to take the tie to the shoot-out.
One of the heroes was sixteen year old keeper Tyler Andrew who had saved a penalty earlier in the game and did likewise in the shoot-out. It was Ryan Hodgson’s kick that put Adswood through. Harley Peers bossed the midfield and Mani Abbey who frightened the home defence with his speed were the other two stars who hopefully will make Adswood a force to reckon with once again.

That’s it for this year folks. Enjoy your Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
